Why do I need an Employee Handbook?
What needs to be included in an Employee Handbook?
What policies should we have? Which ones do we have to have?
We do have a handbook … but could it be more engaging?
Does our handbook get across the culture of our organisation?
If you have ever asked yourself any of these questions … then you’ve come to the right place!
Having an Employee Handbook (what I call a Colleague Handbook) – rather than just a bunch of policies – is a great way to foster a sense of ‘belonging’ and set the culture for current and future members of your organisation.
Whilst having a Colleague Handbook certainly helps you tick off various legislative requirements, it also gives you the chance to provide consistency in your messaging to all your staff. This is especially important as many organisations now have people working remotely or in a hybrid system, so it is important still to foster team spirit and a collective continuity amongst your staff.
Everyone should feel that they belong.
Why choose The People Choreographer Colleague Handbook?
As The People Choreographer, I place inclusivity and support for colleagues at the heart of everything I do. And I’ve done the same with my Colleague Handbook.
The Colleague Handbook is a completely customisable template which focuses on engaging current and future employees with the business vision and your organisation’s way of working. It will help to show any new employees the ropes and enable ALL staff, current, new and future, to get a good idea of how the business works and understand the boundaries.
With this Colleague Handbook, you know that not only are your policies sorted, but all employees understand that they are safe, included and valued by the business.
As well as the handbook itself, you also receive 21 key policies – everything that an organisation needs to have in place to help things run smoothly and so that your people know what’s what and where they stand. You can of course continue to use policies you have already put in place, but these will ‘fill the gaps’ or enable you to update policies which need a refresh.
As well as the handbook itself and all 21 policies, it also comes with a simple ‘crib sheet’ about how to implement them …
AND
… An hour with me!
When you receive your handbook, there will be a link to book in a time, at your convenience, and we can go through things together in this ‘Helping Hand’ hour: you can ask any questions you may have, and I can guide you as to what you need to be thinking about or how to get others in your organisation – perhaps your senior management team or your line managers – on board.
You really can pick my brains about anything at all to do with the handbook, from implementing the policies to guidance on equity, diversity and inclusion, training and development, and much, much more. This session is completely FREE and is available to you whichever version of the handbook you choose.
And it’s carbon negative!
Whilst you canprint the handbook, they are designed to be digital and you will receive it in digital format.
For every handbook purchased, I will be planting three trees. Well, not with my own fair hand, but organised by the non-profit group JUST ONE Tree. Each one sold will be contributing to global reforestation projects.
JUST ONE Tree focuses on removing CO2 from the atmosphere and reversing biodiversity loss through global reforestation in countries such as Brazil, Madagascar, Haiti, Indonesia, Mozambique, Nepal, Kenya and Zambia, where there has been devastating loss of forests.
Why two versions?
The Colleague Handbook is a one-off purchase and is available in two formats: white label or bespoke. You choose the one that suits you best (or, reality check, the one you know you will be able to implement sooner rather than later)!
With both versions, you receive the 21 key policies, a PDF ‘crib sheet’, a ‘Helping Hand’ hour with me, and three trees planted ‘in your honour’ as a thank you!
White Label
The white label version is DIY. Everything is in there but you will need to add your logo and branding colours, change the font, and ‘delete as appropriate’ for your organisation. You simply receive the handbook as an editable document and you make the changes yourself.
Bespoke
The bespoke version is the one where I do all that for you! I will send you a simple online form to complete with the necessary information, and I will do all the ‘bespoking’ for you. This includes deleting anything not applicable in your organisation and inserting all the relevant ‘bits and pieces’ where they belong.
FAQs
Can changes be made to the included policies?
Most of the policies are ‘ready to go’ and should not need amending. However, changes can be made, but if this is something you would like me to do, it would be charged separately. Let me know what you need and I’ll be happy to discuss and give you guidance.
What can I ask in the ‘Helping Hand’ hour?
Anything you like that’s relevant to the handbook!
What if I need more than an hour?
If you find that there are more things you want to ask or discuss, I will send you my calendar link and you can book in additional time with me at a preferential rate.
What if some of the policies are new to the organisation?
If you feel that any of the policies may be met with doubt, fear or resistance, we can discuss the opportunity for training with key members of staff. Some policies you will be ready to implement straightaway, others may be “Let’s bring in that policy soon but do some training with line managers first!”
What if I want to add more policies?
The 21 policies included with the handbook should be all that you currently need … BUT just let me know what you want to add and we can discuss that when we meet.
Can an additional section be added to the handbook if it’s really key for my organisation?
Of course! That would be a great thing to bring up in our hour together – or email me at rachel@peoplechoreographer.co.uk
