I’m Rachel - The People Choreographer® – here to help you with your people
to … realise their potential ... work with passion and purpose ... maximise your productivity … and make your organisation a place where people want to be!
My favourite phrase is “Everything is figure-out-able”, because it’s true! My whole career has been in HR and, after a long stint at the RNLI (which I loved), I decided to take the plunge and go solo, offering my services as a People consultant to charities, not-for-profits, and purpose-led businesses who put their people front and centre.
I will help you to create ways of working that engage, excite and improve the experience of your employees and volunteers. I enable you to implement change and develop strong teamwork and communication. I will show you how to futureproof your people strategy.
I care because you care. And there is no such thing as ‘just’ … nobody is ‘just a volunteer’ or ‘just part-time’ … I will work for you and with you to make sure that every person in your organisation feels valued, appreciated, motivated, happy to be there, and understands that they are there to achieve your vision for your organisation.
I almost want to call myself “The HR Unprofessional” … but I don’t think that would work! What I mean is that I have an unconventional and non-traditional approach. As one of my favourite clients told me: “I never liked HR before I met you.” In fact, I hate the term HR Consultant. I see my job as working with courageous leaders who are purpose-focused for a better world, taking their vision and choregraphing their people to achieve this – I am The People Choreographer®.
This is still HR, but not as you know it! I’m not here to get boxes ticked or pay lip service to you. I am here because I want to roll my sleeves up and get stuck in, get to know your business, work with your people, and deal with it, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Believe me, I’ve seen it all! I can have those difficult conversations, I don’t shy away from anything, but I love all the positive side of working with people where I bring so much value:
Employee (& Volunteer) Retention – so your staff want to stay put and perform their best, doing rewarding & fulfilling jobs – knowing that what they do is meaningful and really matters
Managers and leaders who work with me enjoy my pragmatic approach, big sense of humour, ability to identify solutions for extremely challenging situations, and courage to tackle the most difficult of issues head on. My attitude is always strategically focused and people centred.
I am a Stonewall Ally and a huge advocate of having a diverse workforce and the importance of inclusion. I want all the best people to be involved, people who love working and volunteering for organisations that make the world a better place.
And yeah, I’ve niched. Really niched. I don’t want to work for big corporates or companies with no heart or soul … I work with purpose-led businesses and charities who really care about their people, their social impact, their sustainability and want to do good in our world. Profits may be important, productivity can be key, but your people are always going to be what makes you good at what you do – look after them and see how your organisation thrives and grows.
Rachel has a skill in being able to cut through lots of noise to fully focus on what an organisation is trying to achieve and focuses on simple and effective outcomes.
Her ability to relate to people and understand the complexities of employee and volunteer ways of working are insightful and with Rachel on board you know that she always has the best interests of the organisation at heart, even if this means that she will have to make difficult decisions and have challenging conversations.
In a charitable organisation, Rachel has the rare ability to balance the commercial constraints with a purpose driven approach." Anna Classon
Why The People Choreographer®?
I love Strictly Come Dancing and it struck me whilst watching it one year, that it was incredible how the professional dancers could get such incredible results with the celebrities, whilst organisations implement change and initiatives and get things so wrong. The difference? When people are being taught to dance, they are front and centre. Everything is geared to support them, encourage them, adapt to their learning style and understand the detail of what they are trying to do. Wouldn't it be great if workplaces placed the same focus on their people??!!
More about me...
When I'm not supporting my clients to create awesome and inclusive workspaces, I love to travel with my daughter Sidney and hang out with my two small dogs Clifford and Frankie.
My organisational Values are at the heart of my work.....
DARING Fortune favours the bold! I'm all about being fearless in my pursuits - daring to be different gives a unique way of finding solutions and building lasting legacies.
INTEGRITY Core to my beliefs is doing what is right. I believe in fairness and honesty and strive to create workspaces where no one is afraid to speak their mind.
INCLUSION Being different is a strength, and including all, no matter what divides us, is core to being bigger, better and bolder. I fight injustice and exclusion wherever it rears it’s head.
